Do you have a strong leadership presence? How do you know? What will it take to be seen as a charismatic and effective leader? One approach we take is the Head - Heart - Hand angle. Our head holds many thoughts and sometimes those thoughts are productive and other times they tend to hold us back. Telling yourself that you are not smart enough, or good enough, or motivated enough to make changes - start a new business, strengthen your relationship, or even parent your children can turn into a churning mess of negativity. How can we change this process? Awareness of those damaging thoughts is always a great first step. Take some time right now to jot down all of the thoughts you have that hold you back from being the great leader you know you can be. Keep that list handy. Emotions are the heart piece. We all experience emotions all day long. We tend to really like those positive emotions (who doesn't!) and we often run or tuck away those negative emotions that don't feel good. The reality is that emotions are going to infiltrate all areas of your life - work, home, school, social, etc. Sometimes our emotions can keep us stuck in a position of non-movement. Now write out a list of emotions that keep you in place, that prevent you from taking action, that perhaps have been with you for a long time that you want to release. Actions are part of the recipe for movement through change. Looking at your list of thoughts and emotions, come up with some actions that you can take to change these thoughts and emotions that hold you back into opportunities. It is one thing to have awareness of what holds you in place but to turn those into actionable items that will move you forward is a good goal. Another approach is to look at assumptions, your communications strategies and your energy.
