Have you ever had a co-worker or boss that you just don't like or want to work with at all? I am sure many of you can answer in the affirmative to this question. How do we work with these folks and not let those things we don't like keep us stuck? Here are some tips to help with this:
- Many times there are things we see or feel in others that we don't like but often these traits are a reflection of what we possess. Look within. Take a good hard look at those traits we may have in ourselves. Know your insecurities. Be vulnerable and lean into the discomfort of these traits to change them in new ways.
- Meditation and the practice of mindfulness can really help you look at positive qualities in others and appreciate their differences. We all add to the equation so take time to be mindful and shift your mindset.
- Do the person a favor. Doing for others helps us feel better and this allows us to see them in a new light. Could you help them finish a project? Could you bring them a surprise cup of coffee in the morning? Find the small gestures, see how you feel after.
- Get to know the person, be vulnerable and share a hard story when time presents itself and be amazed at how that person might then open to you. Nothing changes if you don't risk!
